Effective date: 30 July 2026
Crumb Scout ("Crumb Scout", "we", "us", or "our") is a consumer app designed to help people manage everyday celiac-related decisions, including ingredient review, eating-out notes, and personal logging. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices available to users.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- the Crumb Scout mobile app;
- the Crumb Scout public website, including the waitlist form;
- the Crumb Scout support page and support contact channels;
- optional email sign-in, if it is available and you choose to use it.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, cloud storage providers, email apps, sharing destinations, or device backup services that you choose separately.
Information Crumb Scout handles
Depending on how you use Crumb Scout, the app or website may handle:
- ingredient-check results and check history;
- saved product decisions and watched product notes;
- restaurant notes, saved places, and translation-card activity;
- Diary entries, including exposure type, product, timing, symptoms, severity, how an exposure may have happened, how you felt, and notes;
- app settings, profiles, symptom presets, and reminder preferences;
- optional email sign-in details, such as your email address and authentication session data, if sign-in is available and you choose to use it;
- support form submissions you send through the public website; and
- waitlist sign-up details you submit through the public website, such as your name and email address; and
- website request information used to protect forms from abuse. The form service converts the network address supplied by the hosting platform into a keyed hash for rate limiting and does not store the raw address in the Crumb Scout form database.
Crumb Scout does not require an account in order to use its core features.
How information is used
We use information only as needed to operate and support Crumb Scout, including to:
- save your app content and preferences;
- run ingredient-check, translation-card, and diary features you ask the app to run;
- search and filter saved Diary entries and calculate Diary counts, calendars, repeated labels, patterns, insights, and summaries locally on your device;
- authenticate an existing email sign-in account if that option is available and you choose to use it;
- allow you to export, share, or back up your own data;
- receive, review, and respond to support form submissions from the public website;
- store and manage waitlist sign-ups submitted through the public website;
- send launch or product-update emails to people who ask to join the waitlist;
- respond to support requests, bug reports, or feedback;
- maintain app reliability, safety, and release quality; and
- prevent automated submissions, spam, and other misuse of the public forms.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use advertising SDKs or third-party behavioural tracking SDKs.
Local storage
By default, Crumb Scout stores app data locally on your device.
Optional email sign-in does not, by itself, turn on cloud sync for local app content. If you export a backup, share a report, send an email, or save content through another app or service, that information is then handled by the destination you choose.
Diary searches, filters, counts, calendars, pattern labels, insights, and summaries are calculated from saved entries on your device and are not sent to Crumb Scout or an external processing service.
When you choose Export CSV, Crumb Scout creates a temporary .csv file containing all Diary entries in the app's cache and opens the device share sheet. Share summary passes a generated text summary to the device share sheet. Crumb Scout does not upload either export to its backend, but your operating system and any destination you select will handle the copy you choose to share. Cached export files may remain until the operating system or app clears its cache.
Ingredient checks and translation cards
Typed and pasted ingredient checks are processed on your device in the current version of Crumb Scout. They are not sent to an external AI model provider.
The current app does not include functional camera or photo-library ingredient checking and does not request those permissions. A clearly labelled Coming soon preview may be visible, but it does not take, select, read, store, or upload a photo.
English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German translation cards are included in the app and are available offline. Crumb Scout does not currently generate or download translation cards for other languages.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, Crumb Scout may schedule local notifications on your device. Reminder settings are stored locally unless you export or share your app data.
Third-party services
Crumb Scout does not use advertising SDKs, behavioural tracking SDKs, a mandatory account system, or built-in cloud sync.
The current Crumb Scout services use:
- Supabase to provide optional email sign-in where available and to store website waitlist and support-form submissions; and
- Vercel to host and deliver the public website.
Your device operating system and any app or service you select also process information that you choose to export or share. Their own privacy terms apply to that copy.
Retention
App content remains on your device until you edit or delete it, a selected Diary-retention setting removes eligible entries, app or device storage is cleared, or the app is uninstalled. Exporting or sharing creates a separate copy and does not remove the source content from Crumb Scout. Temporary cached export files may remain until the operating system or app clears its cache.
We do not currently apply one fixed retention period to every website or account record:
- support submissions are kept while we handle the request and for only as long afterwards as reasonably needed for support history, security, dispute handling, or legal obligations;
- waitlist records are kept while launch or product-update communications remain relevant, or until you ask us to remove your sign-up; and
- optional sign-in records are kept while the account remains active and for any limited additional period needed for security, support, dispute handling, or legal obligations; and
- hashed form rate-limit records become eligible for deletion after 24 hours and are removed during later form activity.
We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed for these purposes. A copy may remain temporarily in restricted backups until those backups are overwritten through the normal backup cycle.
Your choices
Users can generally:
- review, edit, or delete app content within the app;
- clear saved check results, check history, diary data, and other stored records;
- export their own data;
- disable reminders;
- sign out of optional email sign-in if it is available and used;
- ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of a support submission or waitlist record;
- ask for help accessing or removing an existing sign-in account; and
- contact support with other privacy-related questions.
Submit a request through the support form using the relevant email address where possible. We may ask for information needed to verify that you are entitled to make the request. We may also retain limited information where necessary to meet legal obligations, protect the service, prevent fraud, or establish or defend legal claims.
Removing an optional sign-in account does not automatically remove app content stored locally on your device. Local app content must be deleted separately in the app or by clearing the app from the device.
Depending on where you live, data-protection law may provide additional rights, including a right to object to or restrict certain processing or to complain to a data-protection authority.
Children
Crumb Scout is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a child-directed service flow. If a parent or guardian uses the app for a child, they are responsible for deciding what information is entered, exported, or shared.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and product-design measures to reduce privacy and security risk. However, no app, device, network, or method of transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users should treat exported backups, Diary CSV files, shared Diary summaries, reports, and screenshots as sensitive, particularly where health-related notes are included.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The published version will always include the current effective date.
